Israel’s IEC extends grid monitoring agreement with Prisma Photonics

Israeli state-owned vertically integrated energy utility, Israel Electric Corporation (IEC), has signed an agreement with Israel-based tech company Prisma Photonics to extend its cooperation for grid monitoring solutions.

Under an earlier agreement with IEC, Prisma has been using optical fibres to monitor the national transmission grid since 2020. The recent extension will expand Prisma Photonics’ coverage to 1,000 km, which is 20 per cent of the national transmission grid. The grid monitoring solution will track events affecting the regular operation of the transmission network and send warnings on faults with their accurate location, thereby facilitating better grid management and reliability, and quicker fault response. In addition, it will collect weather and grid data to optimise the existing network operations and allow for better integration of renewable energy sources.
