Singareni Collieries commissions 5 MW floating solar plant

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has commissioned its first floating solar power plant with 5 MW capacity taking the total solar power generation capacity of the company to 224 MW at nine locations.

The floating solar power plant has been established with a cost of Rs 260 million  on the reservoir waters of the company’s 2×600 MW thermal power plant at Pegadapalli in Jaipur mandal of Mancherial district, Telangana. The project has used transparent glass-to-glass solar modules, which are rated as more efficient than traditional solar modules. The 5 MW plant is estimated to generate 10 million units of energy per annum and the profit/savings on energy bills to Singareni would be about Rs 30 million a year. The plant’s total capacity is 15 MW (AC) / 19.5 MW (DC). Currently, Phase 1 of 5 MW(AC)/6.5 MW (DC) has been commissioned, and the remaining 10MW (AC) and 13 MW (DC) would be commissioned in the next few months. The project was awarded to Novus Green Energy Systems and Ilios Power consortium through the e-bidding process.
