NTPC commissions first green hydrogen blending operation in PNG network

NTPC Limited has commissioned India’s first green hydrogen blending project in its piped natural gas (PNG) network at the Kawas township in Surat. The project is a joint effort of NTPC and Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) and it aims to supply households with H2-NG (natural gas) made by electrolysis of water using power from an already installed 1 MW floating solar project. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has given approval for 5 per cent volume blending of green hydrogen with PNG. The blending level will be gradually scaled up to 20 per cent. NTPC Kawas has held awareness workshops for township residents with the help of GGL officials.
