Uganda’s UETCL commissions 132/33 kV Luzira Industrial Park substation

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has, reportedly, commissioned the 120 MVA, 132/33 kV Luzira Industrial Park substation and associated transmission line project.

The USD24 million project included the construction of the substation (which was completed in December 2018) and the associated 15-km, 132 kV transmission line (which was completed in December 2022). The reason for the delay in completion of the line was due to land acquisition challenges. The new substation comprises of three step-down power transformers to lower the voltage level from 132 kV to 33 kV, which will be connected to the Umeme network. The key contractor of the project was China CAMC Engineering Company Limited, with NEK Consults Limited as the consultant. It was funded using a loan from China EXIM Bank. The project is a part of the Electrification of Industrial Parks Project Phase I project, which comprises of the 80 MVA, 132/33 kV Iganga Industrial Parks substation and associated 18-km, 132 kV transmission line already commissioned in December 2019; the 169 MVA, 132/33 kV Mukono Industrial Parks substation and associated 5-km, 132 kV transmission line already commissioned in July 2019; and the 120 MVA, 132/33 kV Namanve South Industrial Parks substation and associated 5-km, 132 kV transmission line already commissioned in January 2021.
