NTPC commissions first unit of North Karanpura STPS in Jharkhand

NTPC Limited has started the commercial operation of first unit of 660 MW of the North Karanpura super thermal power station (STPS) (3×660 MW) in Jharkhand.

With this, NTPC has commissioned India’s first air cooled condenser (ACC) installed super critical plant to demonstrate its commitment towards water conservation through reduce, reuse and recycle. This project has been envisaged with ACC which has almost one-third water footprint as compared to a conventional water cooled condenser. This would result in water saving of around 30.5 mcm annually thus fulfilling the needs of around 1.5 million people in the region annually. This plant will supply economical power to the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha. With this, standalone and group commercial capacity of NTPC has become 58,979 MW and 71,594 MW respectively.
