MNRE defers ALMM for a year

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced that the Approved Models and Manufacturers of Solar Photovoltaic Modules (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2019 and subsequent amendments and clarifications, are in abeyance for one financial year.

As per this rule, all solar projects that are commissioned by March 2024 will be exempted from the requirements of procuring solar photovoltaic (PV) modules that comply with Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). This new order is expected to provide relief to the solar industry as it allows developers to source imported solar cells and modules for their solar projects. Lack of clarity regarding ALMM has long been a concern for solar power developers as the country’s own domestic manufacturing capability is considered inadequate to cater to the industry’s needs. Thus, this announcement and temporary removal of ALMM will help boost capacity additions in the country.
