The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas has directed all the coal-based captive thermal power plants (TPPs) including co-generating captive TPPs in the National Capital Region (NCR) to initiate co-firing of biomass-based pellets with coal.
The plants have been directed to initiate immediate steps to co-fire biomass-based pellets with coal through a continuous and uninterrupted supply chain targeting at least 5 per cent co-firing of biomass pellets by September 30, 2O23 and at least 10 per cent co-firing by December 31, 2023. First action taken report in compliance of this direction needs to be submitted by September 30, 2O23.
