Macawber Beekay commissions a first-of-its-kind commercial green coal project for NTPC in Varanasi

Macawber Beekay Private Limited has commissioned the first-of-its-kind commercial green coal project for NTPC Limited in Varanasi. The green coal plant is a waste-to-energy initiative that will make torrefied charcoal from municipal waste. To execute the project, NTPC’s arm, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited, had awarded the project on an engineering, procurement and construction basis to Macawber Beekay Private Limited. The first reactor module, with a capacity of 200 tonnes per day (tpd), was installed and commissioned for NTPC’s Harit Koyla Pariyojana plant at Ramana in Varanasi. The total capacity of this plant after installation of all three modules will be 600 tpd of waste. The plant is built on 20 acres of land. Notably, NTPC produced 70 tonnes of green coal out of 200 tonnes of waste from this unit. This innovative project is an example of the company’s commitment to the environment and waste management.
