CIL aims to supply 610 mt coal to power plants in 2023-24

Coal India Limited (CIL) is aiming to supply 610 million tonnes (mt) of coal to the power sector in 2023-24 to meet the demand of coal-fired plants during the year.

This is 23.4 mt more or 4 per cent higher than the record 586.6 mt supplied to power plants by CIL in 2022-23. CIL’s apportioned quantity accounts for around 74 per cent of the estimated coal requirement of domestic coal based plants during the year. CIL’s production and off-take for 2023-24 is targeted at 780 mt. Of this, with 610 mt programmed to meet the power sector’s demand, availability of coal for the non-regulated sector increases sizably as compared to last year.
