Philippines’ DOE to award new contracts under Green Energy Auction 2

The Department of Energy (DOE) of the Philippines has released the terms of reference for the second round of the Green Energy Auction (GEA2) Program, with the agency planning to award the new contracts by the end of June 2023.

GEA2 will auction 11,600 MW of total renewable energy capacity of which 7,715 MW will be for the Luzon grid, 2,695 MW will be supplied to Visayas, and 1,190 MW is earmarked for the Mindanao grid. Out of the total capacity, 3,600 MW each will be added during 2024 and 2025. Installation targets for these years include ground-mounted and roof-mounted solar, onshore wind and biomass. Meanwhile, during 2026, around 4,400 MW will be added which will include ground-mounted, roof-mounted and floating solar, onshore wind, biomass and waste-to-energy. The supply contract will be for 20-years beginning from the date of the commercial operation of the renewable energy project.
