TANESO awards 220 kV switchyard contract to Croatian Končar

Croatia-based KONČAR-Engineering, a unit of electrical equipment manufacturer Koncar Elektroindustrija d.d, has signed a contract with Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) worth EUR3.1 million for the reconstruction of a 220 kV switchyard at the Kidatu hydro power plant (HPP).

The scope of work under the turnkey contract includes project management, design, procurement and installation of primary and secondary equipment, minor construction works at the switchyard, functional testing, commissioning, and training of operators and system engineers at TANESCO. The reconstruction will enable modernisation of the switchyard at one of Tanzania’s most important generation plants, as well as the installation of Končar’s supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. The main subcontractor for local works is Telenerg Engineering, a recently acquired unit of KONČAR. The project is expected to be completed in 12 months.
