Oman’s OETC completes 132/33 kV Saih al Khairat project

Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), Oman’s high voltage grid developer, has successfully finalised the Saih al Khairat project in the Dhofar governorate.

The completed project features a state-of-the-art 132/33 kV grid station located approximately 80 km from Thumrait. It includes the installation of six bays of 132 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), two 125 MVA transformers, four bays of 33 kV GIS switchgear, and the implementation of telecom and security infrastructure. Furthermore, a 91- km overhead transmission line has been constructed, connecting the Thumrait grid station to the Saih al Khairat grid station. The total investment for this project amounted to approximately OMR13 million. The project aims to meet the future electricity demands of the region while aligning with Oman’s vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Further, by connecting the region to the Dhofar grid, the project will result in annual savings of 42.3 million litres of diesel fuel and eliminate the production of 114,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide gas, thus significantly reducing environmental pollution.
