Electricity of Vietnam’s (EVN) subsidiary, Central Vietnam Power Projects Management Board (CPMB), has announced a 500 kV power transmission line to provide stable power supply in the northern region of the country.
The project entails the 317-km long, 500 kV Quang Trach–Quynh Luu–Thanh Hoa transmission line, which will pass through several provinces in the central region, including Quang Binh, Nghe An and Thanh Hoa. The project will relieve the load on the two existing 500 kV lines and ensure power security for northern Vietnam in the coming years. It has also been included in the Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII) for the 2021-30 period. CPMB is planning to connect thermal power plants and renewable energy facilities in the north-central region to the national grid. Assuming there are no issues with site clearance and compensation, construction on the project is expected to commence in 2025.
