Coal production touches 222.93 mt in first quarter of 2023-24

The Ministry of Coal has achieved substantial surge in overall coal production with a growth of 8.40 per cent in first quarter of 2023-24.

The cumulative coal production has reached 222.93 million tonne (mt) as compared to 205.65 mt in first quarter of 2022-23. Coal India Limited has recorded a growth of 9.85 per cent, with production reaching 175.35 mt in 2023-24 as compared to 159.63 mt during the same period in the previous year. Captive mines attained a growth of 4.74 per cent touching 30.48 mt in 2023-24 as compared to 29.10 mt in 2022-23 during the same period. Simultaneously, cumulative coal despatch has shown an upward trend, reaching 239.69 mt in first quarter of 2023-24, as compared to 224.08 mt in first quarter of 2022-23 with a growth of 6.97 per cent. The total coal stock as on June 30, 2023 has reached 107.15 mt as compared to 77.86 mt as on June 30, 2022, reflecting a growth of 37.62 per cent.
