Central government reviews progress of ISTS in renewable energy rich states

The union power minister chaired a meeting to review the progress of the inter-state transmission system (ISTS) in the country for the evacuation of power from rapidly growing renewable energy projects in the country.

The review meeting focused on the progress of ISTS projects under planning and bidding, and under implementation. Notably, the ISTS plan for renewable energy resource-rich states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra were reviewed. It was emphasised that the transmission planning should take into consideration the emerging requirements such as green hydrogen production, increase in conventional generation capacity to meet growing power demand, and offshore wind generation in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. Furthermore, the inter state and intra state transmission plans for states in the North Eastern Region were also reviewed.
