South African electrical equipment and services company, ACTOM, has won contracts to supply electrical equipment to battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, from two international electrical companies – South Korean Hyosung Heavy Industries and China’s Pinggao Group – which have been appointed to design, execute and manage the first phase of state-owned Eskom’s two-phase programme.
The contracts pertain to projects comprising the initial phase, which Eskom refers as the proof-of-concept phase. The Eskom BESS programme, which has relaxed the local content requirements, allows international suppliers to participate to promote competition. The two companies have awarded contracts to manufacture and supply electrical equipment for BESS projects to various ACTOM’s divisions – ACTOM Power Transformers, ACTOM Medium-VoltageSwitchgear, ACTOM High Voltage Equipment and ACTOM Distribution Transformers.
