South Korean Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company (Hyundai E&C) has won a USD145 million order from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for construction of the 525 kV Neom–Yanbu high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line in Saudi Arabia.
The line will span 605 km between Neom, a new urban area planned by the country in its northwestern Tabuk Province, and Yanbu, a port city on the Red Sea coast of western Saudi Arabia. The project will be carried out in phases, with Hyundai E&C responsible for Portion 1 of the project, which involves building the 207-km HVDC line and approximately 450 transmission towers, on a turnkey basis. The company aims to complete the project’s construction by July 2027.
