Gamuda-led JV to build hydroelectric powerplant in Sabah

Gamuda Bhd will establish a joint venture (JV) called UPP Holdings Sdn Bhd to develop a 187.5 MW hydroelectric power plant in Sabah Malaysia.

Other parties in the JV include Sabah Energy Corp Sdn Bhd and Kerjaya Kagum Hitech JV Sdn Bhd. The project is expected to cost around RM4 billion and construction is scheduled to start in 2024. Work on the facility will take five years to complete and the power plant will have an initial operating period of 40 years. Once operational, the hydroelectric power plant will provide an additional generation capacity of 187.5 MW for Sabah as well as generate up to 1,052 GWh of clean energy per year. Moreover, a power purchase agreement is also to be finalised with the off-taker Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd.
