ReNew commissions Koppal Transmission Scheme project

ReNew has announced the commissioning of its first interstate transmission system (ISTS) project.

The project will help to facilitate the transmission of 1,500 MW of clean energy in the Koppal area of Karnataka. Awarded in 2022, the Koppal Transmission Scheme encompasses the construction of a new 400/220 kV substation at Koppal, along with a 276 ckt km 400 kV D/C quad moose transmission line. Additionally, it involves the extension of the 400 kV GIS bays at the new Powergrid Narendra substation. The remaining 3,500 MW of transmission is anticipated to be completed by June 2024, following the commissioning of the 1,500 MW Koppal Transmission Scheme. Following the announcement, Norfund and KLP, through their joint venture KNI India AS, inked an agreement for the second joint investment in the transmission sector. Additionally, as part of the ISTS, ReNew is implementing transmission projects that will connect Karnataka’s 5 GW of solar and wind power potential to the grid over a 35-year period under Phase I.
