Partho Ganguly Country Manager, Sungrow FPV Sci. & Tech. Co. Ltd

Partho Ganguly is the country manager for Sungrow FPV Sci. & Tech. Co. Ltd, India division. With over 11 years of experience in the solar power sector, he has been instrumental in the growth of Sungrow’s floating solar division in India. In the past, he has worked with companies such as Shapoorji Pallonji. Sungrow Floating PV has a global presence and has completed installations in India, Europe, Southeast Asia and China.

Ganguly is a passionate advocate of renewable energy and is a recognised expert in the field of floating solar. He strongly believes in the potential of floating solar to provide both environmental and commercial benefits, making it a crucial element of the transition to clean energy. “Floating solar can be combined with other technologies, such as water treatment facilities or hydropower, to create hybrid energy generation systems that maximise resource use and energy efficiency,” he says.

The floating solar segment is growing exponentially, and Ganguly is committed to ensuring its sustainable development. Floating solar installations face unique challenges, particularly in regions with variable weather conditions. Ganguly emphasises the importance of a flexible approach to address the challenges and tailor solutions to meet India’s unique needs, making “quality consciousness with price competitiveness” the success mantra for this market. His ultimate goal is to see all reservoirs in India covered with floating solar panels. He envisions a future where this technology maximises electricity generation and, compared to ground-mounted systems, conserves land resources for agriculture while mitigating water evaporation, a vital concern for the future. He says, “India has made significant strides in developing floating solar installations, but it is still less than 1 per cent of its total capacity, and much larger projects are on their way.”

A graduate in electrical engineering, Ganguly also has a postgraduate degree from NPTI Nagpur. Ganguly likes to maintain a healthy lifestyle, engaging in physical activities such as cycling. His passion for photography enables him to capture the beauty of the world around him during his travels. His love for travel has allowed him to witness various ground-mounted solar projects across the country, which gives him a sense of fulfilment in contributing to a greener planet and, indirectly, to a more sustainable future.
