Shveta Arya leads the power systems business unit for Cummins India. In her current role, she is responsible for driving business growth and strategy, and strengthening customer relationships for the power generation, industrial and technology businesses, catering to both Indian and global markets. Prior to joining Cummins, she was leading strategy and mergers and acquisitions for Thomas Cook India.
According to Arya, the Indian power sector has experienced significant growth and transformation in recent years. Attractive opportunities, policy support and increased investments contributed to its growth in 2022-23. “Some of the key tailwinds that we foresee are increased investments in infrastructure, the need for reliable power backup solutions in industries such as data centres, healthcare and manufacturing, growing demand for sustainable solutions to reduce emissions, and a shift towards power solutions with advanced technologies for enhanced operational efficiency and reduced operating costs. We were one of the first power solution technology companies to introduce these technologically advanced gensets in the country,” she says.
“The outlook for the sector is positive, with an expectation of significant growth, driven by rising demand for electricity, expanding urbanisation and government initiatives to promote renewable energy integration. This growing demand will create a diverse range of opportunities for players in the power systems and genset industry to meet the energy demand sustainably and efficiently. The rising power demand in the country underscores the increasing criticality of reliable backup solutions. The government, industry and academia must collaborate and formulate comprehensive solutions tailored to our country’s distinctive requirements, guiding us towards our sustainability objectives,” adds Arya.
Arya recalled her most memorable assignment, involving leading the development and launch of Cummins India’s CPCB IV+ compliant diesel gensets.
A graduate in information technology engineering from Delhi University, Arya also holds a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Her management style is a combination of strategic thinking, collaboration and a focus on fostering an inclusive and positive work culture.
