Afghanistan to import 1.8 TWh of electricity from Turkmenistan in 2024

The state-owned Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has signed an agreement with Turkmenistan’s Turkmenenergo State ElectricPower Corporation to import 1.8 TWh of electricity in 2024.

Power will be supplied through four lines between Andkhoy, Akina, Badghis and Turghundi-Herat, all in Afghanistan. During the meeting between the two sides on January 1, 2024, in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan stated that it was committed to completing the construction of the 500 kV transmission line between Sheberghan and Arghandi via Dashte Alwan, which will increase electricity imports from Turkmenistan. Construction on the Sheberghan–Arghandi line commenced in December 2023. The two sides agreed to fast-track the construction of Noor-ul-Jihad substation in Herat, Afghanistan.
