MNRE introduces new scheme to enhance green ammonia production in India

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced a new initiative for procuring green ammonia under “Mode-2A” of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme, part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

According to the notification, the scheme aims to boost green ammonia production in India, improve its cost competitiveness compared to fossil-based alternatives, and promote widespread use of green ammonia. MNRE will implement the scheme through Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited as the implementing agency. The funding for this initiative will be sourced from the budget allocated to the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The scheme offers a direct incentive based on the amount of green ammonia produced and supplied over a three-year period. The incentive starts at Rs 8.82 per kg in the first year, followed by Rs 7.06 per kg in the second year, and Rs 5.30 per kg in the third year.
