CCEA approves CIL’s equity investment through JV in coal-to-SNG project with GAIL JV and coal-to-AN project with BHEL

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved Coal India Limited’s (CIL) equity investments for two significant projects. Firstly, an investment of Rs 19.97 billion for a coal-to-synthetic natural gas (SNG) project in West Bengal through a joint venture (JV) with GAIL. Secondly, an investment of Rs 18.03 billion for a coal-to-ammonium nitrate (AN) project in Odisha through a JV with Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL). The equity investments will be beyond 30 per cent of CIL’s net worth in the respective JVs. The projects align with India’s dual objectives of self-reliance and energy independence, contributing to the target of 100 mt coal gasification by 2030.
