Chenab river successfully diverted at Ratle HEP in J&K to accelerate dam construction

A significant achievement was reached at the Ratle hydro electric project (HEP) in Jammu & Kashmir, as the Chenab river was successfully diverted through diversion tunnels at Drabshalla in Kishtwar district.

This pivotal step allows for the isolation of the dam area at the river bed, initiating crucial excavation and construction activities. The river diversion is expected to accelerate project construction, helping to minimise delays and align with the scheduled commissioning date of May 2026. The Ratle project is overseen by Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, a joint venture between NHPC Limited and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
