MNRE working on policy mechanism to promote green hydrogen for RTC renewable energy supply

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is working on the modalities for promoting the use of green hydrogen in supporting round-the-clock (RTC) electricity.

Recently, the Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy chaired a meeting to explore the integration of green hydrogen with solar and wind energy for continuous renewable power supply.

The discussions during the meeting centered on leveraging green hydrogen as a storage solution to support RTC power supply and meet peak demand. Various policy mechanisms, including the contract for difference methodology, were deliberated to provide government support for such projects. The MNRE directed officials to draft scheme guidelines based on economic viability, technological advancements, and market dynamics in the green hydrogen and power sectors.
