Pramod Deore: Global Chief Executive Officer (On-site Renewable Business), CleanMax

Pramod Deore is global chief executive officer for the on-site renewable business at CleanMax, overseeing operations in India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. He began his career in the power sector with BSES Limited, Mumbai, focusing on the distribution business. Later, he transitioned to renewable energy generation, serving as chief operating officer for the distributed solar business at Mahindra Susten before joining CleanMax in 2018.

For Deore, the most exciting aspect of his current role is contributing to the company’s EBITDA through various operating and financial levers. These include integrating global resources, systems and processes to enhance business efficiency and generate volumes, value and growth; developing business in India and international geographies; and finding opportunities to create value for stakeholders while conducting environmentally sustainable business.

Deore believes that India’s renewable energy market is brimming with opportunity. “The government has set a target of 500 GW by 2030, with 180 GW already achieved, leaving around two-thirds to be accomplished in the next seven years. Achieving about 45 GW per year is a massive undertaking. This ambitious goal can be realised by developing a robust ecosystem to support all stakeholders. India aims to democratise solar power by making 10 million homes solar powered, generating a demand for 50 GW of solar in the residential segment. The use of advanced technologies will help boost renewable generation,” he notes.

Deore’s management style is purpose-driven. He focuses on influencing people and teams with a big-picture perspective, providing guidance on what needs to be done and how to achieve it. He says, “I believe in letting individuals and teams figure out the specifics of how to execute tasks, avoiding micromanagement. However, I am actively involved where needed.”

Deore is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from VJTI, Mumbai. He also has a postgraduate degree in Marketing and has completed the Senior Executive Leadership Programme at Harvard Business School in Boston, USA. He likes reading and learning new things. “Every Sunday, I read the Harvard Business Review, which I find to be very practical, contemporary, thoughtfully researched and implementable in day-to-day business,” he says. In terms of future goals, Deore is aiming for 2x growth in the business over the next 24 months across various geographies.
