Philippines DOE awards 92 OSW energy service contracts

The Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded 92 offshore wind (OSW) energy service contracts with a potential capacity of 65 GWh in the Philippines.

The project will be located in the north of Luzon, west of Metro Manila, and parts of Mindoro, Panay, and Guimaras Strait. Currently, these contracts are in the development stage, focusing on preliminary wind data gathering and system impact studies. Out of these 92 contracts, four were awarded to fully foreign-owned companies. OSW is vital in achieving the Philippines’ renewable energy goals, aiming for a 50 per cent renewable energy share by 2040. Further, the World Bank estimates the country’s technical offshore wind potential at over 178 GW.
