Macawber Beekay Private Limited has secured three more green coal projects in India. The projects will be set up in Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and Hubbali (Karnataka). The largest project, with a capacity of 900 tonnes per day (tpd), will be set up in Noida, whereas the Bhopal and Hubbali projects will have a capacity of 500 tpd and 400 tpd respectively. The three projects, along with the Varanasi project, will have a combined capacity to handle 2,400 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day by August 2025. NTPC is expected to get over 800 tonnes of green coal per day collectively from the four projects. Around four years ago, NTPC Limited had planned to produce green coal (torrefied charcoal) from municipal waste. Its subsidiary, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited, had awarded the project, with a total waste handling capacity of 600 tpd, to Macawber Beekay on an engineering, procurement and construction basis. The plant generates 200 tonnes of green coal per day.
