Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Nepal has awarded and signed a contract to Techno Electric and Engineering Company Limited (Inida), for the construction of a 400 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substation at Ratmate, Nuwakot district to enhance power transmission infrastructure in the region.
The 400 kV Ratmate substation, with a planned capacity of 1,000 MVA is projected to be one of the largest substations in Nepal with construction scheduled to be completed within 39 months. Once operational, the USD51.6 million substation will facilitate critical power transmission between the Lapsiphedi and New Hetauda substations and will have the capability to evacuate around 3,200 MW of power from various hydropower projects and substations. In addition to the substation, the Millennium Challenge Corporation Nepal Compact will fund the construction of up to 315 km of transmission line from Lapsiphedi, Kathmandu, to the Nepal-India border in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West).
