PLN reveals energy transition strategy to net zero

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has detailed its strategy for the country’s energy transition aimed at achieving net zero emissions by 2060, during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum  2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center.

PLN reiterated its commitment to the energy transition, focusing on the energy trilemma: reliability, affordability, and sustainability. It stressed the importance of global collaboration in tackling climate change challenges, including strategy, technology, and investment. PLN’s energy transition roadmap was first outlined in its 2021-30 Rencana Usaha Penyediaan Tenaga Listrik  or electricity supply business plan with a 52 per cent renewable energy power plant composition. The company is now redesigning this plan through an aggressive transformation called accelerated renewable energy development. This aims for 75 per cent of new generating capacity to come from renewable sources and 25 per cent from natural gas. The plan is expected to be released later this year.
