The Ministry of Power (MoP) has set a price benchmark for biomass pellets at Rs 2.32 per 1000 kcal, effective from September 1, 2023, in an effort to encourage the use of biomass in thermal power generation within the National Capital Region (NCR).
This pricing directive aims to facilitate the integration of sustainable biomass utilisation in energy production, supporting India’s environmental and energy diversification goals. The benchmark price, determined by the Price Benchmarking Committee established by the MoP on June 22, 2023, applies to non-torrefied biomass pellets with a moisture content below 14 per cent and a gross calorific value ranging from 2800 to 3400 kcal per kg.
