MNRE receives approval for revised solar power scheme under PM JANMAN and PM JUGA

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has received approval from the President for a revised solar power scheme under PM JANMAN and Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PM JUGA).

The scheme aims to electrify 100,000 un-electrified households in tribal and particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTG) areas, using off-grid solar systems with a budget allocation Rs 9.15 billion. It targets households in 18 Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and West Bengal, where grid electricity is not feasible. The plan also includes solarising 2,000 public institutions and providing solar lighting to 1,500 multi-purpose centres in PVTG areas. The scheme will be funded from DAPST allocation from MNRE. The scheme aims to allocate Rs 50,000 to each household to install 0.3 kW solar off-grid systems, Rs 100,000 for each multipurpose center (MPC) for solar street lightning and Rs 100,000 kW for the solarisation of public institutions. For fiscal allocations, Rs 200 million is designated for 2024 and Rs 2.55 billion for 2025 for households and MPCs, along with an allocation of Rs 500 million for public institutions in 2024. The scheme will run from 2023-24 to 2028-29.
