Nigeria commits NGN500 billion to revitalise abandoned power projects

The Federal Government of Nigeria  has allocated over NGN500 billion to revive more than 100 stalled projects of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to enhance power supply nationwide.

These projects will help restore the country’s electricity network experiencing frequent blackouts. As per the latest updates shared by the country’s Ministry of Power, majority of the TCN projects that were previously deserted are close to completion, with some reaching completion rates of 80 per cent or above. The ministry has asked for a separate budget allocation in 2025 to support these projects, to improve electricity supply throughout the country. To ensure the system’s resilience, the ministry is exploring alternative power sources to supplement the national grid. It is urging states and private investors to create separate power projects to help the grid, especially in regions with few transmission lines that are at risk.
