Nawneet Vibhaw is a partner at JSA and specialises in environmental advisory, environmental disputes, and environment, social and governance (ESG) matters. He completed his BA LLB (Hons) from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, and his LLM in Environment, Energy and Climate Change from Lewis & Clark Law School, Portland, Oregon, USA. He advises clients on diverse regulatory and environmental issues across sectors and appears on their behalf in matters before the Supreme Court of India and various benches of the National Green Tribunal. He also advises clients on ESG-related issues and has previously served as a member of FICCI’s task force on ESG.
Vibhaw has authored three books on environment, energy and climate change laws for LexisNexis India. In addition, he has authored and co-authored more than 80 publications, including India-centric chapters on environment and climate change in international publications such as Getting the Deal Through, Legal 500, Lex Mundi’s Global Climate Change Guide and Environment and Climate Change Law Review, as well as columns and articles in various mainstream media outlets and publications.
Due to his keen interest in environmental education, Vibhaw has offered regular lectures on environment, energy and climate change laws at the National Law University, Delhi, and Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat, between 2011 and 2015. He has been involved in several speaking engagements across India, the US, the UK, Australia, Germany, Spain, the Philippines and Belgium. He has been serving as an adjunct professor of environmental law at the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, since March 2023.
He loves his job as a legal practitioner because he gets to advise and represent clients on diverse issues related to climate change, environment protection, forest and wildlife conservation, waste management and sustainability issues. According to him, if people have the freedom and a sense of responsibility and ownership towards their work, they will always produce good results irrespective of the nature of the work they do. He firmly believes that each of us has the option to choose our path in life, provided we are determined and patient and persevere to get there by all fair means.
“I love music and spending quality time with family. I also have a pro bono initiative called Panchtattva Foundation through which I work towards environment protection in India,” he says.
