EETC invests EGP7.6 billion in Egypt’s electricity sector

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has invested EGP7.6 billion during the fiscal year 2023-24 ending June 30, 2024, for upgrading, modernising and expanding its high voltage and ultra-high voltage systems.

This initiative included developing new stations, cables, and transmission lines, alongside upgrades to regional control centres such as Cairo’s and the newly operational National Control Center in the New Administrative Capital. During a meeting with the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the EETC Chairwoman highlighted the company’s focus on completing ongoing projects, enhancing network facilities, and integrating renewable energy sources into the national grid. The company has made significant advancements, reaching a 99 per cent completion rate for transformer station maintenance, 100 per cent for cables, and 97 per cent for overhead lines. Furthermore, the country is also treading towards more regional energy interconnection projects with Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Greece and Italy, besides strengthening its grid capabilities. By optimising fuel consumption through collaboration with the petroleum sector and opting for sustainable energy solutions, EETC aims to increase energy generation by 6 per cent to 229.1 GWh to ensure grid reliability and efficiency.
