The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) of Vietnam is adjusting its power development plan VIII (PDP VIII) to support waste-to-energy projects. The ministry has emphasised that the local government’s proposals would be integrated into the plan. This adjustment aims to address local waste resource capacities and evaluate their impact on the national grid. The updated plan will be submitted for approval by the Prime Minister by February 2025. This follows the approval of Decision No. 262/QD-TTg, which includes various renewable energy projects across the country. As of late 2024, the plan includes 34 waste-to-energy projects with a combined capacity of 621.1 MW.
