Coal India Limited (CIL) and GAIL India Limited have incorporated a joint venture company (JVC), Coal Gas India Limited, for setting up a coal to synthetic natural gas (SNG) project at Eastern Coal Field.
The JVC has been formed to undertake the development of the SNG project and related infrastructure, including captive coal mining, coal beneficiation, and import of coal equipment. The objective is to manufacture SNG and other products derived from synthetic gas, in line with market demand and the broader energy transition goals of the country. The authorised share capital of the JVC is Rs 110 million, while the initial paid-up capital stands at Rs 100,000, with CIL holding a 51 per cent stake and GAIL holding 49 per cent.
