Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has commissioned the largest 220 kV substation in the airport area of Umm Fannin.
With an investment of more than AED500 million, the facility is designed to support Sharjah’s expanding electricity needs, ensuring a more stable and efficient energy supply. The high voltage substation is developed in partnership with Siemens Energy, and General Projects Company for Mechanical and Electrical Contracting. The facility is equipped with four 220/132 kV, 400 MVA transformers and four 132/33 kV, 75 MVA transformers, delivering a total capacity exceeding 1,200 MW. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to improve grid performance and optimise load distribution across the city, as well as support economic and urban growth.
