The Ministry of Power has extended its directive mandating imported coal-based (ICB) power plants to operate at optimum capacity until June 30, 2025, to address rising electricity demand during the peak summer months.
The earlier order, which required ICB plants to run at full capacity till April 30, has now been extended as part of the government’s routine seasonal response to increased power consumption from April to June. The directive is expected to ensure adequate electricity supply during periods of high cooling demand due to hot and humid weather conditions. A similar mandate is typically enforced during the August–October period as well.
