MNRE amends ALMM module efficiency norms for off-grid solar applications

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has notified an amendment to the approved list of models and manufacturers (ALMM) order, easing module efficiency thresholds for off-grid solar applications such as solar lamps, street lights, fans, and other systems, excluding agricultural pumps and rooftop solar systems.

As per the amendment, the minimum module efficiency requirement for enlistment in ALMM for category-III off-grid applications has been reduced to 18 per cent for both crystalline-silicon and cadmium telluride thin-film technologies. These modules, each with a capacity of less than 200 Wp, will not be included in the main ALMM list-I but in a separate ALMM list-I. The efficiency thresholds for other categories such as utility-scale, rooftop, solar pumping, and general applications remain the same.
