An electronics engineer and a seasoned power plant professional, Ajay Anant Konnur has 34 years of experience in the operations and maintenance of large-capacity thermal and hydroelectric power plants, including pumped storage plants (PSPs). He has held a wide range of positions within thermal and hydropower plants, eventually rising to the role of station head. Over the years, Konnur has successfully led the modernisation of ageing control systems, transitioning from hardwired, discrete card-based systems to advanced DCS/PLC-based solutions, thereby enhancing both operational efficiency and plant reliability.
“A significant milestone in my career was playing a key role in the commissioning of Asia’s first 150 MW pumped storage unit at Tata Power’s Bhira generating station in Maharashtra in 1995,” he says.
Konnur is currently responsible for overseeing all of Tata Power’s hydroelectric stations in the Mumbai licence area and is closely involved in the development of the company’s 2.8 GW pumped hydro-based expansion project at Bhivpuri and Shirwata. He finds it truly exciting to be part of Tata Power’s ambitious growth strategy in the hydropower sector, which aligns with India’s clean energy and decarbonisation goals.

power supply.
