IFC invests USD5 million in Husk Power to expand solar mini-grids in Nigeria

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will invest USD5 million in Husk Power Energy Systems Nigeria Limited to support the deployment of solar hybrid mini-grids in underserved regions of northern Nigeria.

The investment is also backed by the Government of Canada. This is the first investment under IFC’s distributed access through renewable energy scale up platform, which is a USD 200 million initiative launched in November 2024 to accelerate private-sector clean energy projects in West and Central Africa. The funding will support Husk Nigeria, a subsidiary of US-based Husk Power Systems in developing and operating up to 108 mini-grid sites.
