The Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) is set to introduce rooftop solar installations under the renewable energy service company (RESCO) model on government-built properties in Chandigarh.
The initiative aims to enhance solar energy adoption across the city, beginning with 3 MW projects on identified sites. CREST has selected the Chandigarh housing board’s dector 51 Housing Society as the pilot location. A memorandum of understanding has been prepared following consultations with the local resident welfare association. Further rollouts are planned on municipal corporation (MC) properties, with the MC already submitting a list of sites to CREST. Under the RESCO model, a private developer will bear the full cost of solar installation, while the electricity generated will be sold to Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited at Rs 4.96 per unit.
