The Ministry of Power has conducted a comprehensive review of the power sector in Karnataka.
The ministry emphasised the importance of implementing reforms to enhance efficiency and reliability across the sector. It urged power utilities to undertake financial reforms by reducing annual losses and adopting cost-reflective tariffs. The ministry also stressed the need for timely clearance of government dues and subsidies, recommending a centralized payment mechanism for improved accountability and efficiency. Further, the ministry has directed to expedite the rollout of prepaid smart meters, especially in government establishments, and to ensure time-bound implementation for commercial, industrial, and other consumer categories. It also advised early resolution of  right of way constraints and adoption of the central government’s compensation guidelines to facilitate timely execution of transmission projects.
