Reportedly, the Delhi government has directed the discoms to be fully equipped to handle a projected record peak demand of 9,000 MW this summer.
Discoms have been asked to focus on four key fronts—anticipating demand, ensuring preparedness, arranging adequate supply, and managing faults and redundancy. To ensure supply security, sufficient power has been tied up through long-term, medium-term, and short-term purchase agreements aligned with load projections. Additional sourcing from power exchanges will be used to manage demand spikes. Advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are being deployed to improve load forecasting accuracy. These tools will help discoms respond proactively to demand surges. Further, the government has instructed discoms to keep quick response teams on standby to address emergencies, including outages during extreme weather events.
