Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has completed the construction and commissioning of a fault current limiter (FCL) system on the 132 kV transmission network in Muscat.
With an investment of over OMR 4 million, the project marks a major step in OETC’s drive to modernise and safeguard the country’s power grid. The new system is expected to significantly improve operational safety and reliability across the national transmission infrastructure. The installed FCLs are designed to contain fault currents within safe levels without interrupting power flow. By doing so, they protect vital grid components, such as transformers, cables, and circuit breakers, from thermal and mechanical damage caused by short-circuits.
