The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has extended the deadline for open access consumers to meet their cumulative renewable purchase obligation (RPO) shortfalls for the period 2014–2020 to the end of the financial year 2025–26.
The extension follows a review of compliance data submitted by the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency and 90 open access consumers which revealed widespread non-compliance. As a result, the commission has allowed a final window for consumers to meet obligations through renewable energy procurement or REC purchases. Entities with surplus renewable energy procurement up to 2019-2020 may carry it forward, while specific rulings were issued for companies including Amba River Coke Limited, JSW Steel Limited, Pudumjee Paper Products Limited, and Viraj Profiles Private Limited.
