The Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) has announced the results of its auction for 500 MW/1,000 MWh of standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
Three developers have emerged as winners; NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), Bondada Engineering, and Oriana Power. NIRL secured the largest share of 250 MW/500 MWh at a tariff of Rs 248,000 per MW per month. Bondada Engineering was awarded 200 MW/400 MWh, while Oriana Power won 50 MW/100 MWh, both at a tariff of Rs 246,000 per MW per month. The projects will be implemented across six locations in Tamil Nadu under the build-own-operate model. NIRL’s awarded capacity includes three standalone BESS facilities to be developed at Ottapidaram, Anuppankulam, and Kayathar, connected to substations operating at 400/230/110 kV. The auction includes a viability gap funding component which is administered by Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited. The developers are eligible for central support of up to 30 per cent of capital cost or Rs 2.7 million per MWh, whichever is lower.
