The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee to strengthen collaboration in power sector research, knowledge sharing, and capacity building.
The partnership aims to enhance the technical capabilities of CEA personnel through short-term projects and online training, while promoting joint research on key issues related to decarbonisation, energy efficiency and just transition. It will support India’s clean energy transition and net-zero commitments, with specific focus areas including hydropower, pumped storage, renewable energy integration, green hydrogen, energy storage, e-mobility, biomass cofiring, and geothermal technologies. The collaboration also covers climate vulnerability assessments, emission inventory development, standards for electric vehicles and battery recycling, and measures to improve power supply quality and reliability. Both institutions will jointly work on sharing research facilities, data, and outcomes, subject to confidentiality agreements.
